Report: Mario Moraes will not compete at Mid-Ohio

with one comment

Multiple reports out of Brazil, as well as a release from KV Racing Technology, have confirmed that the father of IndyCar Series driver Mario Moraes has died of cancer in Sao Paulo.

According to these reports, Mario Ermirio de Moraes had been hospitalized since Monday and that his son has been in Brazil since that time as well.

Brazilian TV station Rede Bandeirantes has said on its website that Mario Moraes will not compete in Sunday’s Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Team co-owners Kevin Kalkhoven and Jimmy Vasser have released a statement:

“On behalf of the entire KV Racing Technology organization we wish to express our deepest sympathy to Senhora Nidia Maria Faustino de Moraes, Mario, his sisters Fabiana and Natalia and the entire family for their loss.”

And with that, I do the same. May God watch over them and keep them strong.
