Tonight’s stellar opening ceremony for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada had a bit of Indianapolis 500 flavor.
Jacques Villeneuve, the 1995 Indy 500 winner/CART series champion and 1997 Formula One champion, was part of a group of well-known Canadians that brought the Olympic flag into the B.C. Place arena. According to the Canadian Press, the group also included: actor Donald Sutherland, hockey legend Bobby Orr, 1948 gold medalist figure skater Barbara Ann Scott, senator Romeo Dallaire, astronaut Julie Payette, singer Anne Murray, and Betty Fox, the mother of the late cancer activist Terry Fox.
